Popular spoof music video Newport State of Mind has been pulled from YouTube after a copyright complaint lodged by EMI.
The Welsh parody of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’s hit Empire State of Mind received more than two million hits since it was posted on YouTube at the end of last month.
Praising the likes of chips and cheese, Plaid Cymru and the Kingsway Shopping Centre, the video also features 25-year-old Carmarthenshire actress Terema Wainwright, who recently told the Post she had been surprised by how many hits the video was clocking up.
“We were hoping to hit a target of 1,000 and we were over the moon with that,” said Terema, who gives an excellent performance of how Alicia might look playing keyboard on a park bench instead of sitting at a grand piano. (Haven’t we all wondered how that would look?)
However, try to play the video now and all you get is a message stating that the video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by EMI Music Publishing Ltd.
Do they have a fair point? Or have they just misplaced their sense of humour?
And what on earth will they make of this other video ‘inspired’ by Jay-Z and Ms Keys – put together by no other than Newport’s homegrown finest, Goldie Lookin’ Chain.
